Director of Plant Operations

We are currently accepting applications for Director of Plant Operations to provide coordination and oversight of building operations and maintenance.

Salary: $65,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year  

Location: 12800 West Creek Parkway Richmond, VA 23238 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the following functions: Plant Operations, Clinical Engineering, Dietary, Housekeeping, Property Management, grounds maintenance, and design & construction projects. 
  • Plans and assigns work projects to maintenance staff and/or Dietary and Housekeeping supervisor.  
  • Plans and initiates programs to reduce energy consumption, schedules monitoring, adjustment and replacement of equipment. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain a proactive system for scheduled inspections of all facilities on a pre-determined schedule to assure that the facilities are maintained in a pristine condition. 
  • Evaluate performance of subordinates; counsels' employees; resolves complaints and solves problems; interviews and hires employees; orientates and oversees training of new employees. 
  • Works with architects in planning additions and renovations, contacts and interviews contractors, accepts and analyzes bids, awards contract and manages construction projects. 
  • Plan and coordinate work projects and departmental managers to ensure projects are completed with disruption to department routine. 
  • Maintain regular communication with staff. 
  • Maintain necessary records; prepare and submit various reports to governmental agencies; prepare and submit department activity reports, as required. 
  • Review all purchase orders and invoices and authorize payment. Reviews all invoices for maintenance supplies and parts, services, and authorize payment. 
  • Responsible for the fleet of vehicles owned by Hallmark to assure that routine maintenance is performed and that vehicles are maintained in a safe condition. 
  • Responsible for an annual assessment of all vehicles for the purpose of making a recommendation to the Capital Budget Committee for vehicle purchases for the following year. 
  • Serves as a Safety Officer and oversees Emergency Management Program Life Safety. 
  • Responsible for arranging and overseeing the housekeeping functions for Hallmark 
  • Manages vendor relationships and trains vendors on work order and billing procedures. Responsible for invoice processing and accuracy of cost center coding. 
  • Uses pc and/or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. 
  • Provides process and procedure training. 
  • Conducts financial/business analysis including preparation of reports. 
  • Recommends staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination.  
  • Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime.  
  • Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff.  
  • Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies.  
  • Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values. 

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Direct facilities management experience in a healthcare or hospital environment is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field preferred.
  • Five years' proven leadership and supervisory ability in plant operations required, preferably in a healthcare facility.
  • Knowledge and experience with Joint Commission and OSHA standards is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain orderly records and reports. 
  • Must possess a valid State of Virginia motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Hallmark’s auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral form, with management, staff and outside agencies. 
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident-free workplace, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes. 
  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. 
  • Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms. 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background/drug screening. 
  • Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
